Kitchen Lighting Choices

Kitchen lighting is as important as any element of the kitchen’s design and look.

Kitchen lighting may be the last thing you think of when considering a great kitchen design.  The room’s layout and furnishings may spring to mind first but the care that goes into making a kitchen attractive and welcoming can be enhanced by kitchen lighting.

Under Cabinet Lighting

One of the most common types of kitchen lighting we see is under-cabinet lighting.  As the name implies, this is lighting that is set up beneath the kitchen cabinets.   As the image on the left shows, these areas can become shadowy.  This is especially the case if the kitchen only has one or two central, overhead lights.  Under-cabinet lighting can spotlight decorations,  indicate important items or areas, and provide brighter illumination as you prepare food.  You can see the difference under-cabinet lighting can make in the image on the right.

Interior Cabinet Lighting

Some cabinets might also benefit from interior lighting that is installed inside cabinets.  These lights can help showcase prized glassware (such as crustal or family china sets) and help guests find often-used items.  In-cabinet and under-cabinet lighting can also be combined to great effect, as seen in the image below.

Puck Lighting

Puck lighting is one of several kitchen lighting options that can make parts of a kitchen pop.  These lines of small lights can really brighten sections of the room, as you can see in the photos below.  Look at how the steel gleams under these LED lights!

Accent Lighting

As with any room, kitchens can also benefit from eye-catching accent lighting to create unique looks.  You can see one unique style below.
