Working Smoke Alarms Saves Lives

Fire Prevention Week is coming up; do you have a working smoke alarm

McCauley Electrical is a proud member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the authority on fire, electrical and building safety.  We believe firmly in spreading fire safety awareness. Next week is Fire Prevention Week from October 5-11 and the campaign theme this is, “Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives:  Test Yours Every Month!  Doing this small step, that we all seem to put off, can cut the risk of dying in a home fire in half.

NFPA has partnered with several organizations to help motivate the public to test their smoke alarms every month. Domino’s Pizza is putting the campaign theme on top of their pizza boxes and pizza deliveries will be delivered on a fire truck for the week.  The pizza will be free if all smoke alarms in the home are working.  If the firefighters find any non-working smoke alarms they will replace the batteries or install a fully-functional fire safety device.  Now that’s motivation?

Along with Domino’s, LEGOLAND Florida and California Resorts have joined forces with NFPA and launched an online smoke alarm pledge. This pledge encourages the public to test their smoke alarms each month, reinforcing the campaign theme.  Participants who take the smoke alarm pledge will be automatically entered into a sweepstakes.  The grand prize winner will receive a trip for up to four people to either resort.  They will choose 10 other participants who will win free tickets to either park. To participate in the pledge visit www.nfpa.org/smokealarmpledge from now through October 5th.

According to NFPA statistics, three out of every five home fire deaths in the U.S. result from fires in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms. Whether you take the online pledge or order a Domino’s pizza, McCauley Electric recommends testing your smoke alarms every month to ensure your protection in the event of a home fire.
